A bit about me
Hi, I’m Sam and I’ve been working with Ecovis since 2016 as a freelance consultant; providing them with creative support to boost their visual marketing, to increase engagement from both inside and outside the company, and of course to give them some awesome photographic memories of their social events and away days.
I provide Ecovis with a professional and personal service – I’m basically their friendly go-to for all things creative and I’m always happy to discuss ideas they might have, as well as problem solve anything that may need fixing or just something they want to do, but don’t yet know how to do it.
Ecovis’ website is a project that I’ve spent a significant amount of time working closely with them on, creating the functionality that they need and designing something that moves them forward, away from the ‘typical’ accountancy firms and gives them a fresh look. As always, finding that balance between form and function was really important, it couldn’t just look good, it had to provide value to the user. Working with Ecovis on a monthly basis also means that I’m able to make tweaks for them moving forward, honing the website and ensuring that it provides the most benefit for the moving forward.
You can read more about my services on my website at beyondtheslate and feel free to get in touch to discuss how I might be able to creatively assist your company.
Personally speaking
What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
That’s a nice easy one – climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and white water rafting down the Nile a few days later. It was the hardest, probably most terrifying but definitely most rewarding thing I’ve achieved – both physically and mentally draining. I almost fell off the mountain as we set off on our way back down because I was so delirious from the altitude, luckily my guide jumped in front of me to stop me sliding off the edge, I definitely owed him a pint!
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
I’ve always dreamed of being able to fly, ever since I was little. Still haven’t achieved it yet, but if Tony Stark can then who knows, I could be in with a shot.
What one piece of advice would you give your 10-year-old self?
Stop with the worrying. I tend to concern myself a lot with the details – both personally and professionally – and that can be great for ensuring things are completed just how I envisaged them, but it does heighten my stress levels a tad.
Who is your favourite Disney hero or heroine?
This answer changes every time a new Disney film comes out! Not necessarily because they’ve become my new favourite I guess, but because the animation just gets better and better that they end up being my most watched hero of the hour. So currently, that’s Mirabel from Encanto.
My all-time Disney hero though, as you may have guessed from my superpower answer, is Iron Man – seriously, what’s not to love about a genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.
Coffee or tea?
Definitely both. A strong caffeine hit with a freshly brewed coffee to get me going in the morning and then a steady influx of Yorkshire tea to see me through the day.
What languages do you know how to speak?
Well 20 years ago I could’ve said German and Spanish but through lack of practice all I can speak now is ein poco English. I’d definitely like to pick those languages back up, who knows when they could be useful again.
