A bit about me

Hello, I’m Sam. I joined Ecovis in 2017 with a BSc in Psychology from Durham University. Training within the Audit & Business Advisory team, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2020. I now manage a portfolio of clients in a variety of industries and have gained exposure to a wide range of clients from small, owner managed businesses through to large international groups.

Recently I completed the ICAEW Sustainability Certificate, which is designed to provide financial professionals with deep knowledge of sustainability risks. This understanding enables us to partner with sustainability experts to analyse and integrate the impact of these risks into financial planning and reporting. I am fascinated about this emerging area of professional services and it’s clear that this is of vital importance to my clients, and I am keen to develop my knowledge and technical expertise such that I can support their increasing focus on this element of their business.

Personally speaking

Alternative career choice?

Professional golfer. Travelling the world and playing golf every day – it wouldn’t really feel like work!

What’s the most exciting thing on your bucket list?

I would love to do a sky dive, as it looks to be the ultimate thrill! I have completed the highest exterior walk of a building in the world, scaling the CN Tower in Toronto, so I’m okay with heights!

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?

It would have to be David Attenborough. From a young age, I have always enjoyed his TV programmes and the insight he gives into the natural world. More recently, I have been inspired by his leadership and passion in raising awareness around climate change and sustainability. After a lifetime of travelling to all corners of the world, I’m sure he would have plenty of good stories to tell.

What was your first job?

I was a youth scout for Barnet Football Club. Whilst this provided an enjoyable insight into behind the scenes of a professional club, sadly, I didn’t manage to find the next Steven Gerrard!
