Mostafa Aboud

Hello, I’m Mostafa.

So far, my career has involved working in both the public and private sectors. I believe that my decision to transition from the public to the private sector has been immensely beneficial, as I am continuously learning and gaining a much broader range of experience. I believe that Ecovis has been instrumental in my development, as I have been continuously pushed in my role, while also feeling supported at every step.

I believe that one of the most important and enjoyable aspects of my role is the constant learning and development I am experiencing. I feel that the role pushes you to find new ways of resolving issues and utilise different tools. A classic example of this is the use of AI in my role, which I have increasingly implemented to improve my efficiency and accuracy.

I help my clients by ensuring that they are compliant with laws and regulations, and that their records are accurate. This is crucial, as failing to do so can have implications for those who rely on the financial statements. In particular, I perform testing on various areas such as administrative expenses, creditors/accruals and payroll. My goal is to help our clients understand the areas where there are weaknesses or deficiencies in their records, so that they can make the most informed decisions and have the best possible understanding of their financial position and performance.

I enjoy working on different clients and industries. I think that the breadth of Ecovis’ clientele is a big contributor to my development, as I have gained experience auditing companies across a host of industries, such as property SPVs, financial services companies, technology and software firms, media and entertainment companies, consumer goods and retail businesses, as well as companies in the logistics and storage sectors.

• What are your favourite hobbies?

I enjoy reading occasionally, particularly non-fiction (e.g. personal finance/investing and self-improvement books), as these type of books help me grow as an individual and are areas that I genuinely find interesting as an amateur investor myself. I am also gradually trying to be more active by exercising although, I feel that this is something I still need to improve on.

• If you could choose an alternative career, what would it be?

I think a career in tech would be an interesting alternative as I have always liked computers and technology in general.

• What was your first job?

My first job was working as a tutor by helping students in subject areas such as English and Maths, and I did that for a number of years. I have also tutored university students in areas such as Economics and Maths.

• What’s the most exciting thing on your bucket list?

I really enjoy travelling so my plan is to visit some countries in the future such as the US and Brazil which to me is the most exciting thing as I can meet new people, try new foods etc.
