Have you checked your State Pension forecast recently?

30 July 2026

Your State Pension forecast reveals how much you could receive, when you can claim, and how you might boost your entitlement. This guide explains why the forecast matters, how to check it online or by other means, and what to do if you already claim or defer your pension.

Have you checked your State Pension forecast recently?

Planning for retirement takes time, yet many people leave it too late. However, one simple step can help enormously. So, have you checked your State Pension forecast recently? Essentially, your forecast shows how much you could receive. Moreover, it reveals when you can claim and how you might boost your entitlement.

Why your forecast matters

Firstly, a forecast gives you a clear picture of your future. In short, it helps you plan your retirement with confidence. Specifically, it tells you three key things:

  • How much State Pension you could receive
  • When you become eligible to claim it
  • Whether you can increase your entitlement

Furthermore, the government reviews the State Pension age regularly. Therefore, your results may change over time. Because of this, you should check back often.

Checking your forecast online

Fortunately, the quickest method uses the online service. You can access it here: https://www.gov.uk/check-state-pension

However, you must first sign in to your account. In addition, you may need to confirm your identity. Usually, photo ID works well, such as a passport or driving licence.

Nevertheless, the online service does not suit everyone. Notably, you cannot use it in two situations. For example, you cannot use it if you already receive your State Pension. Likewise, you cannot use it if you have deferred your claim.

Other ways to check

Alternatively, you can check your forecast in other ways. For instance, you might use the HMRC app instead. Moreover, if your State Pension age sits more than 30 days away, you have further options. Specifically, you can:

  • Complete the BR19 application form and post it
  • Contact the Future Pension Centre for a forecast

If you already claim or defer

However, different rules apply once you claim. If you already receive or defer your pension, contact the Pension Service in the UK. Alternatively, contact the International Pension Centre if you live abroad.

Plan your retirement today

Ultimately, regular checks help you make informed decisions. So, have you checked your State Pension forecast recently? If not, please review it today. Better still, get in touch and we will happily help you plan ahead.
